Fragrance basics
The short version
Each label describes roughly how much perfume oil is dissolved in alcohol. The terms are not legally defined.
Lightest
Around 5 to 15 percent oil. Bright, airy and made to feel fresh.
The middle
Around 15 to 20 percent. The most common strength on shelves.
Richest
Around 20 percent and above. Softer opening, closer to the skin, fewer sprays needed.
