The material
Historically a substance from sperm whales, found weathered on beaches. Modern perfumery uses synthetic replacements almost exclusively — the natural material is legally restricted in several countries and inconsistent in quality.
The smell
Salty, warm and skin-like, more a texture than a smell. It makes other materials seem to glow.
On skin
A base note that extends everything around it. It is often the reason a fragrance feels like it is coming off your skin rather than sitting on top of it.
